Ticket_20100210_RoanokeSecond verse, same as the first?  Not really.  While the set list was the same, tonight the girls were more relaxed and it was obvious in the form of a much more energetic show.  Everyone seemed to be on a leftover high from the premier (or maybe it was the chocolate?) and all of the performances were much stronger.  There also seemed to be a lot more interaction with the audience now that the initial jitters were gone.

I like the new element where each girls gets to introduce one song.  Tonight's intro's were more spontaneous and there were a few ad libs.  The most notable one was when Lynn introduced Dulaman.  Like last night, she explained that the song was about a woman trying to choose between two men by comparing them to seaweed and then she mentioned that Ray and Nicky were her two types of seaweed.  Tonight, though, she added this: "because they're so slimy!"  Yes, she said it!  There are several thousand witnesses.  I wonder whether she'll say it again tomorrow night!

By the way, Lynn.  If you read this, you didn't really think you could get away with that not being posted, did you?

I have completely fallen in love with Alex's new solo My Heart Was Home Again.  Tonight's rendition was even better than last night's and it totally brought me to tears.  If Alex doesn't soon come out with a CD, and put that on it, there may be a riot.

Tuesday's Last Rose Fantasia, while always beautiful, seemed a little forced.  Tonight's was the version I've known and loved for years as Máiréad really sunk into it and let her emotions speak through her instrument.  I will never get tired of listening to that song.

The one "Oops!" from last night was fixed tonight.  When Chloë did the thank you's the chorus was actually there when she turned to them.  One less problem to worry about.

Only 5 of the Roanoke 16 are left but we had plenty of energy to go around.  The crowd was a little better tonight, although we were usually the only ones standing or clapping along.  There was plenty of enthusiastic applause, though, so the girls did not go unappreciated.

I forgot to mention the costumes in yesterday's review and rather than editing that one I'll put it here.  The gowns are the same as the ones on the DVD, for the first time I believe.  They are much prettier in person than on screen and I like them much better than the gowns on the Isle of Hope tour.  The first act dresses are all shades of beige, with Lynn's being the lightest color, almost white.  In the second act Lisa's is a darker beige, Chloë's is pink, Alex's is a lovely steel blue, and Lynn's is lavender.  The best part of the second act outfits, though, are the necklaces.  The girls have never worn jewelry on stage before and a little "bling" looks good.  Each girl's necklace is different while Máiréad wears a lovely bracelet instead of a necklace so it doesn't interfere with her violin.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the "real" show; these two shows were dry runs.  If they make it any better I may not be able to take it!  Two down, one to go.

The original review is here.
